Lynne Jones and Mario Juric gave presentations at the IAU Symposium 318 "Asteroids: New Observations, New Models" in Aug 2015. Their symposium proceedings, describing LSST capabilities for detecting moving objects and new simulation software to evaluate the scientific effectiveness of those observations, is available on arXiv and linked from the LSST Solar System page.

A prototype Collimated Beam Projector is on its way from Harvard to Chile (via Tucson) in preparation for a Thanksgiving observing run on the Blanco 4m with DECam.  This device, mounted in front of the telescope, will be used to test calibration techniques with the LSST.

Five hour-long Public Lectures and twenty-five Astronomy Slam videos from LSST2015 in Bremerton have been uploaded to the LSST YouTube Channel.  The group “photo” taken by drone and the Soccer Highlights video are there also!

Lynne Jones y Mario Juric dieron presentaciones en el Simposio de la UAI 318 "Asteroides: Nuevas Observaciones, Nuevos Modelos" en Agosto de 2015. Sus actas del simposio, describiendo las capacidades de LSST para detectar objetos en movimiento y el nuevo software de simulación para evaluar la eficacia científica de esas observaciones, se encuentra disponible en arXiv y vinculado desde la página LSST Solar System page.

El Equipo Cientifico del proyecto se reunió el 2 de noviembre. La discusion incluyó una revisión de la base de datos de errores de software SDSS y sus implicaciones para las estimaciones de personal de operaciones de LSST. El análisis muestra que en 5 años después de que SDSS diera su primera luz, el número de nuevos errores reportados se habría reducido por un factor de 5. Además, la tasa de notificación de errores fue altamente correlacionada con datos liberados de SDSS.

El equipo de telescopio y sitio está teniendo una serie de sesiones informativas, Noviembre 6-12, para compartir la información obtenida de las recientes adquisiciones de gran tamaño: M1M3 Cell, Hexapod/Rotators, TMA y cúpula.

El equipo de liderazgo de gestión de datos (DM) se reúne en Princeton la semana del 16 de noviembre y esta considerando cómo abordar varias tendencias emergentes, incluyendo el uso del marco de desarrollo AstroPY y el abastecimiento de la nube OpenStack para la infraestructura del centro de datos.  El DM (dirigido por Colin Slater y Mario Juric en UW) se está esforzando  para entender las necesidades de la comunidad, para llevar la información hacia los planes y documentos de DM.

La comunidad astronómica chilena ha organizado una reunión de dos días en La Serena los días 19 al 21 de noviembre para discutir la preparación de datos LSST y cómo pueden ser mejor utilizados para avanzar en sus estudios de investigación. Las charlas invitadas presentarán el contexto actual y proyectos relacionados conLSST. Aspectos prácticos de la participación LSST incluyendo el acceso a los datos, las necesidades informáticas, recursos y representación chilena sobre paneles LSST, también serán discutidos.

The Project Science Team met on November 2nd.  Discussion included a review of the SDSS software bug database and implications for LSST Operations staffing estimates.  Analysis shows that at 5 years after SDSS first light the number of new bugs reported had decreased by a factor of 5.  Further, the bug reporting rate was highly correlated with SDSS Data Releases.

The Telescope & Site team is having a series of debriefing sessions November 6-12 to share information gained from the recent large procurement reviews:  M1M3 Cell, Hexapod/Rotators, TMA, and Dome.

The Data Management (DM) Leadership Team will meet in Princeton the week of November 16th and considering how to address several emerging trends, including use of the AstroPY development framework and OpenStack cloud provisioning for data center infrastructure.  DM is also ramping up an effort (led by Colin Slater and Mario Juric at UW) to understand community needs, and to flow that information down into DM's plans and documents. 

The Chilean astronomical community has organized a two-day meeting in La Serena November 19-21 to discuss preparation for LSST data and how it can be best used to advance their research studies.  Invited talks will present LSST context and current LSST-related projects.  Practical aspects of LSST involvement including data access, computing needs, resources, and Chilean representation on LSST panels, will also be discussed.

Safety Coordinator Sandra Romero, in a shared position between Gemini and LSST, will help monitor the on-site contractor's safety program and activities on Cerro Pachón.

On October 6^th, AURA awarded the LSST M1M3 Mirror Cell contract to CAID Industries, Inc. based in Arizona. The work includes the final design, manufacturing, assembly, and vacuum testing of the 26,000kg (57,000lb) steel cell. The large, complex 9m x 9m x 2m (30ft x 30ft x 7ft) weldment safely supports the M1M3 mirror while on the telescope mount assembly and also functions as the low vacuum chamber vessel to enable coating of the mirror surfaces. The work will be done at the CAID facility in Tucson over the next 16 months. Upon completion, the Mirror Cell will be integrated with the M1M3 mirror currently in storage in Tucson, to enable active optical testing at the University of Arizona Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab prior to shipment of the systems to Chile.
