Amanda Bauer joined LSST in March 2017, as the Head of Education and Public Outreach (EPO). In this position, Amanda will provide leadership for the construction phase of LSST’s unique EPO program, including shepherding the development of its strategic and creative vision through construction into operations. Working with the EPO Project Manager she will lead the team to produce LSST visualizations, an active public web portal, Citizen Science opportunities, and tools to engage classrooms and people of all backgrounds in authentic research experiences with LSST data.
Most recently Amanda has been a Research Astronomer and Outreach Officer [3] at the Australian Astronomical Observatory (AAO) based in Sydney, Australia. Her research explores variations in how galaxies form, how they live their lives, and how they evolve into the diverse array of galaxy species we see today. Highlights from her role as Outreach Officer include creating a successful outreach strategy for the AAO, which involved launching social media platforms, redesigning the public website, acting as the main media contact to the press, producing unique video content, tracking EPO activities, and working with staff to properly document and advertise accomplishments. Amanda was named one of the "Top 5 Under 40" Australian Scientists and Science Communicators in 2015.
