LSST Operations Planning continues to be a focus in the Project Office. An operations Management working group, led by AURA with participation from SLAC and LSSTC, met the weeks of January 16 and January 30 to refine details of the governance model planned for LSST during operations.
Members of the Telescope & Site group were in Italy this week, reviewing progress with EIE on the Dome, which will be boxed and shipped to Chile starting in mid-February. [Read more [1]] Meanwhile in Spain, assembly of the Oil Supply System has begun at Asturfeito, along with continued progress on the azimuth main support, elevation trunions, and elevation cradles, all components of the Telescope Mount Assembly.
Bertrand Rigaud joined the Data Management subsystem as Software Engineer. Bertrand's home institution is the IN2P3 / CNRS computing center located in Villeurbanne, France.
Tom Peterson has joined the Camera subsystem as Camera Refrigeration Coordinator. Tom’s home institution is the SLAC Linear Accelerator Center in Menlo Park, CA.
One new job was added to the LSST Hiring Page [2] this week for a “Polyfunctional [3]” based in La Serena, Chile.
For the past three years, LSST Corporation’s Enabling Science program has supported LSST-related research in the form of grants. Over this time-frame, LSSTC’s member institutions have been the recipients of 88% of the $700,000 awarded. In 2017, member institution-related scientists claimed 93% of the total grant dollars awarded. This year’s Call for Proposals culminated in 17 awards totaling $300,000, including eight for undergraduate research projects and support.
